Lesson 25 of 25 · Reading the bass clef
Both Clefs Together
Treble and bass notes in one final round.
What you’ll learn
Piano music puts a treble staff and a bass staff together, and you read both at once. So the first thing to read is the clef, and only then the note. The same position means a different note on each staff:
The quickest check is the clef’s shape. The treble clef curls around the second line from the bottom. The bass clef has two dots around the fourth line. Middle C belongs to both: one ledger line below the treble staff, or one ledger line above the bass staff.
How the lesson works
In this round, each note arrives on either a treble staff or a bass staff, drawn with the right clef. Notes cover every line and space of both staffs, plus middle C. Every letter needs five right answers, on either staff, to finish the strand.
When you’re done, keep both clefs fresh in Training with Clef set to Both, or practice one at a time on treble clef practice and bass clef practice.
