Lesson 21 of 25 · Reading the bass clef
Meet F — Your Bass Anchor
The F clef's two dots mark the F line.
What you’ll learn
This is the first lesson on the other clef. The bass clef is a curl with two dots, and the dots sit either side of the second line from the top. That line is F. That’s why the bass clef is also called the F clef.
F is the bass staff’s anchor note, just as G is on the treble staff. You never have to count to find it: the line between the dots is F, every time. The bass clef even started out as a letter F, the way the treble clef started out as a G.
How the lesson works
After the explanation, Trebly shows you notes on the bass staff one at a time, and you name each one. In this lesson every note is F, so the practice is about spotting the line between the dots quickly. Get it right five times to fill all five dots, and Lesson 22 unlocks.
The bass clef lessons come after Lesson 20, the last of the treble lessons. For everything about the bass clef in one place, see learn the bass clef.
