What’s on the clef notes chart
- Note names on the staff: every line and space in treble clef and bass clef, with the sayings: Every Good Boy Does Fine and FACE for treble, Good Boys Do Fine Always and All Cows Eat Grass for bass.
- How to read the notes: start from a landmark instead of counting from the bottom. That means treble G (where the clef curls), bass F (between the clef’s two dots) and middle C, then step up or down. It also explains the lines above and below the staff.
- The grand staff: both clefs joined, with the landmark notes marked.
- Piano keys (11 × 17 in and larger): where those notes are on the keyboard.
How to use it
- Landmarks first: learn treble G, bass F and middle C until you see them instantly, then read other notes as steps from them.
- A few notes a day: cover the letter names and test yourself on one clef at a time.
- Then practise reading: naming notes on the chart is the start; reading them quickly comes from practice. Try Trebly’s free note reading practice, which shows notes and checks your answers.

Questions
Is it really free? Yes. Download it, print as many copies as you like, and share the link. No email or account.
Treble or bass first? Treble clef first for most beginners. Bass clef if you play bass, cello, trombone, or piano with the left hand. The chart has both, and the landmarks work the same way.
Which size should I print? Letter or A4 for a binder or music stand; 11 × 17 in or larger for a classroom wall, which adds the piano keys.
