What you’ll learn

You met middle C in Lesson 3, on a short ledger line below the treble staff. On the bass staff it sits on a ledger line just above the staff. It’s the very same note: in piano music, the treble and bass staffs meet right there.

FBC
F between the clef's dots, B just above the staff, and middle C on its ledger line.

Just under middle C, in the gap between its ledger line and the top line, is B. It sits in a space, so it needs no ledger line of its own.

With F between the dots and middle C above the staff, you now have two bass landmarks to step from.

How the lesson works

Trebly shows you one note at a time on the bass staff: F, B or middle C. Name each one, and each note needs five right answers to fill its dots. A wrong answer takes a dot away, so the dots show what you really know. Fill them all, and Lesson 23 unlocks.

For every note on the bass staff, see bass clef notes.
